In recent years, many researchers and authors have been investigating various aspects of Aluminium Metal Matrix composites (AMMC) because of their combined mechanical and thermal properties. It becomes a significant task to study the behaviour of AMMC during machining. By observing previous approaches on AMMC, machining of composites is very difficult under normal conditions. During milling process of AMMC using Ti-N coated HSS cutter, some problems arise because of the reinforced particles fabricated in it. High temperatures and poor surface quality were observed at shear zone during machining.
In this context, Aluminium metal matrix composite material is selected as Al- 6061+ 2% Al2O3 and Titanium Nitride (Ti-N) coated HSS helical milling cutter having a size more than composite work piece is selected. The input parameters were taken as speed, feed rate, depth of cut in a range of low, medium and high and coolants are Dry, soluble oil and veg. oil to perform the experiment. Because of various applications and reliable properties of AMMC in advance manufacturing systems, nanotechnology, mechatronics, cryogenics etc., the output parameters were selected as temperature (T) and surface roughness (Ra). Afterwards, Taguchi design of experiments L18 is adopted for the experiment. The values of temperature and surface roughness are noted and the optimal input machining conditions are found by using Fuzzy- Taguchi optimization technique with reference to normalized values followed by their corresponding S/N ratios of output parameters.
The effective optimum results were found by using Fuzzy- Taguchi technique and the variation between experimental and Fuzzy predicted data has been compared and concluded.

The sandwich composites are multilayered materials made by bonding stiff, high strength skin facings to low density core material. The main benefits of using the sandwich concept in structural components are the high stiffness and low weight ratios. Open core metallic sandwich panels are novel type of structures, enabled by innovative fabrication and topology design tools. Such fabricated open core structures welding by Resistance Spot Welding (RSW). The problems associated with RSW are tendency of alloying with the electrode resulting in increased tool wear, and subsequent deterioration of weld quality. In this present work the experimental studies were conducted under type of spot weld, welding current, welding time, hold time and material combination. The complicated behaviour of this process must be analysed to set the optimum parameters to get good quality weld. Based on orthogonal array the experiments were conducted tensile strength test on universal testing machine find out Tensile strength which indicates shear load as per model, Ultimate Shear Stress (UTS) which indicates Shear stress of the weld joint and maximum displacement. The main objective is to predict the better operation conditions of spot weld and influence of each parameter is evaluated.

Hybrid Nano Metal Matrix Composite (HNMMCs) are the newly developed material which are gaining increasing attention for applications in aerospace, defense and automobile industries as a light weight, high strength materials. In this present work by reinforcing the varying percentage of (0.3% GNT, 0.4% CNT) and (0.5% GNT, 0.6% CNT) the HNMMCs samples have been prepared using stir casting process. Experimental studies are conducted on HNMMCs samples to determine the Density, Hardness and Electrical conductivity. For measuring the hardness using Brinell hardness tester and for electrical conductivity using four probe technique. Machining of any hybrid nano composite materials by conventional machining method is difficult because drastic enhancement in particular properties of composite. WEDM independent of mechanical properties. That's why use of non-conventional machining techniques in shaping of hybrid aluminum metal matrix nano composites has generated considerable interest as the manufacturing of complicated contours such as dies. Machining experiments are conducted on HNMMCs according to Taguchi experimental design (L18) for different parameter combinations such as (TON, TOFF, Wire Feed and Gap Voltage). The experimental responses such as Material removal rate, Surface roughness, Machine Time and kerf width are measured and also the influence of machining parameters like Pulse on time (TON), Pulse off time (TOFF), Wire feed (WF) and Gap Voltage on metal removal rate (MRR), surface roughness (SR), Machine Time and Kerf width is studied and the machining responses are analyzed using AHP-TOPSIS method. The optimal processes parameters are identified by using AHP-TOPSIS.Keywords

The present study is concentrated with orthogonal cutting of AISI 1040 carbon steel under dry turning conditions with PVD coated cemented carbide inserts. This paper presents the influence of cutting parameters on the surface roughness of carbon steels of AISI 1040 series. The investigations are carried out by conducting experiments based on Taguchi technique considering L27 orthogonal array. The investigations consists of surface roughness of the material under hot and cold conditions, this aspect is studied due to variation of temperature during turning process showing the affects of online monitoring of tool surface roughness. The other general investigations are signal to noise ratio and analysis of variance are employed to the parameters such as Material removal Rate (MRR). Finally, sensitivity analysis is carried out on most influenced cutting parameter to predict the surface roughness by obtaining the absolute fraction of variance.Keywords

In this work, the effect of shot peening (SP) and its duration on surface characteristics and mechanical properties of FG Al-SiCP composite reinforced with constant amount (10 wt.%) of SiC particles were studied. The composite surface characteristics after SP with 0, 70 and 140 s duration were investigated by XRD and surface topography by SEM. Moreover, Surface roughness, microhardness and tensile behavior of all the specimens were also studied. Results showed that the SP treatment favors to induce nanocrystalline (NC) structure with refined grains and improved other surface properties too which are enhanced along SP duration. It was also revealed that the grain refinement after SP provoked to rise the values of hardness, tensile and yield strengths. In contrast, longer SP duration causes reduction in percentage of elongation and increased surface roughness. However, SP is industrially popular method due to its superior benefits compared to other surface treatment methods.Keywords

Copper Selenide is one of the promising single crystal thermoelectric material for power generation in low temperature range 300 - 360 K. Universal testing machine is used for pressing the Nano powder to obtain the Nano bulk samples. By using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electronic microscope (SEM) identified the structure and phase composition. This study shown that 150 kN pressing force in sample without carbon nano tubes showed ZT=1.2 at a temperature of 322K. It is also shown that thermal conductivity and power factor is mainly influencing the value of thermoelectric efficiency of the studied materials.Keywords

In this work, Abrasive water jet machining experiments are conducted on Al 5083/ B4C/ ZrO2 metal matrix composites. Experiments are conducted according to Taguchi’s experimental design (OA27) for different combinations of nozzle diameter, stand-off distance, jet pressure, abrasive flow rate, and traverse speed. The experimental data of material removal rate and surface roughness are recorded for these runs and are analysed using Taguchi - Genetic algorithm method for identification of optimal process parameters. Further, ANOVA is conducted to determine the contribution of each of these parameters on machining responses. This work is more useful for maximizing MRR thereby the machining process will be done much faster and at the same time, minimizing the Surface Roughness so as to obtain a smoother finish. The confirmation test is done at optimal parameters combinations and results are satisfactory.Keywords
